Back In Blue
City police sergeants got their wish last week to return to wearing
blue shirts as part of their every day uniform
Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik reversed
an October 1999 requirement issued by then
First Deputy Commissioner Patrick Kelleher that ordered sergeants to don
"white shirts" worn by NYPD supervisors, from lieutenant to chief.
As reported here, irate members of the
Sergeants Benevolent Association rallied for
their members to return to the blue shirts, charging the white shirts made the sergeants
stand-out in a crowd a target for criminals. But Kelleher held fast to the white
shirt idea, saying they would make the sergeants "more visible" to people who
wanted to speak with a police supervisor.
Keriks order calls for the blue shirts on a day-to-day basis, and
white shirts for ceremonies and high-profile events.
How To Be A
Queens Guy
Reigning over Queens doesnt come easy. To become the king of
Queens, Kevin James had to be trained in the fine arts of nutrition and saloon
socializing. On the official King of Queens website
(www.spe.sony.com/tv/shows/kingofqueens/), Kevin James, once a prince of Stony
Brook, talks about what it takes to become the quintessential Queensite.
To fit into the over-sized uniform of a parcel worker, James consulted
with Hollywoods worst nutritionist. "After meeting at his house for a backyard
barbecue, we came up with a plan of action. Im proud to say three days later my
uniform fit like a glove a rubber glove Its all about
commitment."
James also had to reach out to the common man. "I found myself
spending a lot of time in Queens, at the local watering holes, pounding beers
and picking up the lingo."
QUEENS FACTS
The website, in the guise of Jerry Stiller, shares special facts
about our home, Queens:
"Hey yous! Here are some facts about Queens New Yawk, that you
won't want to fuhgedaboud."

Fashion
Online: The Bare Essentials
MissSixty.com, a clothing
company website which showcases its fashions, is quite high-tech. It allows a visitor,
through a scale on the side, to zoom in on a section of a picture and take a snapshot like
a fashion photographer would.
It is quite a lesson in how far internet technology has come and is yet
to go.
But that's not all the lesson you might be able to get from the site
because even though it is promoting its "Autumn-winter 2000/01" collection,
there is very little clothing on some of the models, definitely not enough for winter and
autumn protection.
So enjoy the internet technology, but what are they really selling?
Strange
Bedfellows
Queens native Fran Capo, the a stand-up comic, freelance writer,
voiceover artist, co-creator of the first cyber sitcom and current holder of the title as
the Fastest Talking Female according to the Guinness Book of World Records, was the
subject of a recent QConfidential item.
Now Capo is shaking things up in new quarters as the author of a book.
A press release received by QConfidential detailed Capos
latest venture, entitled "It Happened in New York," which chronicles 30 little
known historical facts about New York, an unusual choice for someone who claims that she
didnt enjoy history in school because it was too dry and boring.
However, one thing is conspicuously missing from the release: the fact
that Capo did not write this book alone. Apparently, her co-author is none other than Frank
Borzellieri another Queensite who last year wrote a widely criticized column in
a local weekly newspaper that likened Queens Board of Education member Terri Thomson
to Adolph Hitler. Borzellieri was briefly suspended by chain publisher Walter
Sanchez, but is back spreading his weekly hate.
We held this item until after the gift-giving holidays were over hoping
that no financial benefit of the holiday season would accrue to one who spread racism and
hate.
