Move over Simpsons, the borough president's website is here.
Claire Shulman's on-line picture and the constituent services office is
just a click away.
And you can hear Claire's voice, too!
But the site, filled with cartoon-like illustrations, like the one above, isn't
kid-stuff. It is a good way to get to know the beep's office and it's at queens.nyc.ny.us.

Trash
Talk
A political insider has informed QConfidential that, a group of
Queens Assistant District Attorneys were walking down the street from their nearby office
engulfed in conversation when they witnessed a bizarre episode in front of Borough Hall.
They saw a woman bending down and picking up garbage in front of the
building on Queens Boulevard. It would not have been such a big deal, if it werent
for the fact that the lady was none other than Queens Beep Claire Shulman.
Always on call.
You Say It's
Your Birthday
Everyone knows that one day out of the year can hold a world of
historical significance, and the birthday of outgoing Beep Claire Shulman, Feb. 23, is no
exception.
On that day in 1945, after bitter fighting on Iwo Jima, U.S. Marines
raised the flag on the recently captured Mount Suribachi. A lucky photographer present
snapped the picturewhich would land him a Pulitzer and forever be engrained in the
minds of Americans.
Nine years later the first mass polio inoculation for children began in
Pittsburgh. Jonas Salk, who incidentally attended Townsend Harris High School, developed
the vaccine.
Fast forward to Feb. 23, 1991 thats the day that
Dubyas daddy announced allied ground forces began engaging Iraqi targets in the
Middle East.
And of course exactly six years later the world was introduced to
Dolly, the first adult mammal successfully cloned by scientists in Scotland.
Sorry, we missed it.
Happy Birthday, Claire.
Meet &
Potatoes
After being borough president for 15 years, Claire Shulman has had to
go to hundreds of meetings. From civic groups to Community Board meetings, her patience
wears thin sometimes.
Never getting to the point, one Department of Protection spokesperson
was nervous speaking and would never answer any of her questions clearly. "Every time
this guy would speak you would see Claire get visibly agitated. Shulman would get so
belligerent with the DEP spokesperson that when he left the running joke was that
Claire beat up on him so bad he had to retire."
Shulman has also heard her share of bizarre complaints at these
meetings. "At one meeting," said a source, "a resident came up to her and
said they have a problem with lifeguards. There is always a need for more lifeguards, so
Claire heard her out. At some point, Claire realized the beach had a lifeguard. When she
asked what the problem was, the resident said the lifeguard is fat, and Im
afraid he cant swim fast enough to rescue me."
One thing Shulman will not miss is the meetings.
