Whether it’s modeling or on the microphone, Woodside’s Weili has been in the spotlight for years hitting all the right notes.

This 22-year-old beauty of Taiwanese origin has only been into modeling for “a couple of years,” she said but in that short amount of time she has been making photographic magic with various photographers and turning heads at fashion shows both here in New York and in Taiwan.

When she initially arrived in America and Queens a then high school aged Weili’s plan was to simply study classical music.

But as a student at LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts in Manhattan, she not only became a hit with percussion instruments and studied classical piano – she also set forth on the road to becoming an accomplished singer who is able to sing in both English and Chinese.

Currently Weili is working on putting together a tape to demonstrate her vocal capabilities and described her musical tastes as influenced by pop and R&B.

Weili said she first got into modeling while in Taiwan and, with the help of UModels, is continuing a promising career.

“People seem to like my look,” she said and according to her, her lips are her best feature because, “I think they are just right.”

It’s easy to see that most things are right with Weili and it’s no surprise that modeling was a career that seemed to find her.

“People came to me and asked, would you like to do that,” she said.

Although she is willing to go along with invitations to model, don’t expect her to say "yes" to a night out on the Queens bar/club scene.

“Queens, for me, is home. It’s more like a resting place,” she said.

A typical night out in Queens for Weili sometimes means a trip into Flushing for “the best Chinese food in Queens.”

Even though modeling has been good to her, Weili’s true love is singing.

Her “main goal” is to “finish my music,” she said.

Queens' Informer

While searching for the latest movie news on the internet, one entertainment-minded QConfer noticed that the cable movie “Prison Song” – featuring musicians Mary J. Blige, Q-Tip, and Elvis Costello – was coming to video  and decided to read some more about it. It turned out that another rap artist – nineties superstar Snow – starred in the film as well.

"12 inches of Snow"
with special thanks
to Queens from the artist.

Snow blasted out onto the scene in 1993 with the triple platinum album “12-Inches of Snow,” which featured the seven-week number one Billboard smash “Informer.” Snow was a white guy from Toronto singing with a Jamaican accent and the public ate it up.

But, the liner notes on his first CD reveal a strange pattern. In various spots, the notes read, “Jamaica Ave. boys stay cool,” and “Love to the whole Bayside sound factory.” The credit section said it was recorded at “Bayside Sound Recording Studios in NY,” and Snow’s fan club is listed at  “P.O. Box 503, Bayside, NY 11361.”

Snowontheweb.com revealed that the high school drop out and prison regular was actually discovered in New York City by producer MC Shan while on vacation in the early nineties. He spent lots of time in Queens, and while on bail for an attempted murder charge, he recorded his album and set up his fan club here. He also met the Queens rapper XXX, who wrote the tune “The Plumb Song,” on Snow’s fourth album, “Mind on the Moon.” Snow is currently working on a fifth album, and is focusing on being a good father to his daughter Justuss.

Just for kicks, QConf sent a letter to the Snow Fan Club in Bayside. Two months later, there still hasn’t been a response.

Say Cheese

Although the month of June may be known for 30 days of frenzied and joyful weddings, marriage is a 12-month affair, according to one Queens entrepreneur.

Dave (as he prefers to be called) has attained the American dream through the lens of a camera. A native of El Salvador, at age 19, he decided to join his brother and try his luck in America.

Dave heard that with a little ingenuity and perseverance, anyone in America could have his own business.  His romantic Latin nature went into gear, and he showed up at the Marriage Bureau at Borough Hall one day with a simple Polaroid camera.

Dave offered newlyweds and bridal parties a lasting memento at a price they couldn’t refuse. What a marketing strategy!

That was over a decade ago. Today, Dave uses the latest in professional equipment to enhance the flowing gowns and smiling faces.  He never misses a wedding and even advertises with a festive business card that bills him as “Dave, Photography And Videos For All Occasions.”

Take A Look At This Baby!

Mega-corp Verizon recently delivered their new triplet edition, weighing in at eight pounds, four ounces. The colorful baby is overstuffed, won’t be changed for another year, and grandma can’t pick it up.

According to residents around Queens, there are Verizon directories lying around apartment house lobbies and refuse facilities because children, seniors, the handicapped, and muscle-challenged users can’t handle its bulk.

Verizon Media Relations Director Elizabeth Tusing reported the company conducted a study to determine what kind of telephone directory City residents preferred, and concluded that 72 percent of users in “Brooklyn” approved of the combined format.

She noted the use of two covers for one book instead of four covers for two books will have a desirable environmental impact and help facilitate recycling.

Confidentially New York . . .
