You may not be able to pronounce her name, but you’ll want to learn to say it correctly. Lyudmila Khaytman is a 20-year-old Forest Hills resident and computer science and economics student at NYU.

 Originally from Moscow, Russia, Lyudmila is looking for a modeling agency to represent her. 

“In my free time I like to go to Broadway shows and go dancing, but I’m not a big fan of bars,” said the former New York representative in the Ms. National Teenager pageant.

 For the talent portion of the contest she played piano which she has studied for the past 11 years.

The former third-runner up in the Ms. Manhattan competition and prize-winner at the Queens College Cultural Heritage Piano Competition added, “I would like to find a guy who can speak Russian.”

Bomba Drink A Real Dud

The times are changing in the post-Sept. 11 era and it seems that one soft drink company is leaving a bad taste in the mouths of New Yorkers by keeping their product on local shelves.

A QConfer picked up a bottle of a soft drink called BOMBA energy at a Queens gas station.

Like other liquid energy concoctions, BOMBA energy promises increased power and a refreshing taste.

What sets it apart from others is its hand-grenade shaped bottle.

“The bottle is a real eye-catcher. Pull the ring, open your mind and feel the explosion with every bottle,” boasts the company’s website.

The company prides itself on its explosive container style which youngsters can get their hands on for just under $2.

Sounds like a dud of a deal to us.

Don't Go Changin'?

At a recent concert in Madison Square Garden, Billy Joel — fresh from a rehab stint — altered one of his signature lyrics, perhaps to reflect his newfound sobriety.

In “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant,” Joel sang: “Bottle of white ... Bottle of red ... perhaps a glass of Perrier instead.”

Long Islander Billy Joel is currently touring with Elton John.

Oh Boy!

    Star of HBO hit show “Sex In The City” Sarah Jessica Parker gave birth to a boy last week.

    Thirty-seven-year-old Parker and hubby Matthew Broderick are “the proud parents of a healthy baby boy born on Oct. 28 in New York City,” a Parker spokeswoman said. “The baby came in at 6 pounds and 8 ounces, and is 19 and a half inches tall."

    But Parker will not be on maternity leave from the show, which is filmed at Silvercup Studios in Long Island City, and even continued to do the show while pregnant.  And she is not the only hard working mommy on the show.  Her colleague and actress Cynthia Nixon is currently in her last trimester and will be giving birth soon.

Not Perfect

    A local City Council member, who shall, for the moment, remain nameless, is in desperate need of a proofreader.

    The press releases we get from this councilman’s office are riddled with so many grammar, spelling and other errors that we wonder if the writer is careless, uneducated or high.

    One recent press release, for example, had 14 mistakes in its 12 sentences, including one in the headline.

    What’s most ironic is that the councilmember from whose office these embarrassing missives are coming is known to be multi-lingual, claiming to speak at least three foreign languages.

    Our favorite blooper of the most recent release was the reference to the Councilman attending a “pubic forum.”

    For years, QConfers have been wondering where they could find such an activity in our borough.

            We expect the councilman to fix what is broken in his office: Reputations are writing on it!

Charmed, I'm Sure

    State Senator Frank Padavan can be a real Casanova when he wants to be. He let his charming side loose at a recent press conference in Flushing.

    The event was an announcement of a program, which he funded to help further Korean businesses outreach to non-Korean customers. One Korean business leader kicked off the event by noting all of the restaurants, shops and beauty salons owned by Koreans in Flushing. The speaker said, “Koreans have a lot of beauty salons, nail salons and things like that.”

    Padavan smirked, looked at several of the Korean women there whom he knew, and replied, “Is that why Korean women are so beautiful? Because of all those beauty salons?”

    The playful and witty comment prompted laughter from everybody, including the Korean community leader, who thanked Padavan for obtaining funding for the program, and said, “He [Padavan] always helps this community and listens to our needs. And, of course, without him, I couldn’t get money.” This comment also prompted laughter.
