You’ve
got to look pretty good to get scouted for a modeling agency when you’re
eating McDonald's on your lunch break. You’ve got to look even better to
get scouted on the street a second time. Apparently, Benjamin Cardozo High
School grad and current Whitestone resident Jaymee Luu looks just that
good.
“The
two times I got scouted I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt,” Luu said.
The casually dressed Corona native caught the attention of modeling scouts
a couple of months ago. Since then, Luu has posed for numerous
photographers looking to capture that youthful adventurous spirit Luu
portrays so well.
Next
on her list of to-dos is acting. Having studied Tai Chi and the Israeli
martial art form of Krad-maga, Luu said she’d love to play a mutant in
the next X-Men movie – look out Halle!
When
she’s not practicing martial arts, modeling or acting, Luu is usually
engaging in some other fascinating activity. She has gone snorkeling in
the Caribbean Islands and snowboarding on the white-capped mountains of
Wyndam, New York.
Luu
equates her success in modeling to her success in any other hobby, saying
her new-found fame in the model business is “a good hobby. It’s an
interest, like snowboarding.”
What
does she do when she gets serious?
When
not cashing in on her turn-your-head good looks, Luu is the brains behind
the layout of a science journal in Manhattan. She said, “A full time job
is good for any hobby… because modeling is not very stable. You don’t
get things very often and it is a competitive market out there.”
If
you’re looking to check out this model, here’s a tip: “Queens Center
. . . that’s where I pick out all my clothes and do all my shopping.”
But if her stomach’s rumbling, Luu said, “I’ll go to Flushing
just for the food.”
Just
to make everyone jealous, she added, “I don’t have a diet, I don’t
go on a diet . . . ever.”
The
Day That Lived Infinitely
For City Council hopeful Stephen Jackson, time stopped
almost two years ago.
The
District 27 contender has a big outdoor banner with his photo announcing
the Sept. 11, 2001 primary on a building on Francis Lewis Boulevard at
112th Avenue.
The
banner was originally hung during Jackson’s first bid for City Council
in 2001, and remained up well into 2002 before it was taken down. Last
year, QConf
– in an item called “A Little Behind,” cited the faux
pas.
“We
know that the world stopped on Sept. 11, but the 2002 elections are about
to start,” QConf
said last year.
“Isn’t it about time to take those old posters down?”
Well,
the 2002 election came and went, but the infamous banner didn’t. Now the
2003 elections are creeping up, and the two-year-old banner is up again .
. . in
the same place it was last year.
If
he’s two years behind on his banner, we wonder how that impacts term
limits?
In
Politics, Size Matters
They say that size doesn’t matter, and it’s the thought that
counts.
But
the size of one Council member’s, uh, proclamation, got the envy of a
few of his colleagues.
When
Councilmember Leroy Comrie showed up to a homecoming celebration
for a local Iraq veteran and constituent with a City Council proclamation,
he drew plenty of comments from City Councilman James Sanders,
State Senator Malcolm Smith and even Congressman Gregory Meeks.
Comrie’s
big 18” by 25” document matted inside an even larger frame made the
other pols blush noticeably.
Meeks honored Hollis Navy corpsman Ted Bittle with a
Congressional plate, and the others brought letter- or legal-sized
citations in folders.
The
men, like a bunch of jocks in a locker room, submitted to Comrie’s
largess in the award-giving field with some self-deprecating humor,
downplaying their own, smaller offerings.
It
was a classic peanut gallery, and nice to see so many elected officials
kicking back and having fun with each other.
State
Assemblywoman Barbara Clark was also sitting with the pols, but she
refrained from the most vocal ribbing.
It
was probably just a guy thing.
Cavorting
With Sharon Stone
Is
it a coincidence?
Reports indicate that – a mere 24 hours before filing divorce
papers – actress Sharon Stone was seen cavorting in the wee hours
with Adrien Brody, the Oscar-winning son of Queens.
The
soon-to-be-single Stone, 45, allegedly ran into to the 30-year-old Brody
after hours in the bar at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. Stone
stopped by Brody’s table to say “hello,” and the pair wound up
chatting and boozing together until 2 a.m.
A
spokesperson for Stone has said that the two actors are only friends, but
the late night hang out has lead to speculation that Stone and Brody could
form the biggest winter-spring Hollywood power couple since Demi Moore
and Ashton Kutcher.
Despite
all the raised eyebrows, sources indicate that Brody had no role in
breaking Stone’s union. According to a statement, Stone’s divorce from
journalist Phil Bronstein was amicable.
