A Taste Of The 'Country'

Country Style

Queens Village

Hours: Open 7 days, 8 a.m.-11 p.m.

The taste of Jamaica’s countryside has come to Queens Village at Country Style’s kitchen, which serves up traditional Jamaican breakfasts, soups, meat dishes and desserts that supply quality foods that are "so good it’s got to be Jamaican," as their slogan emphasizes.

Since its grand-opening in December, the cozy establishment has gained wide-recognition with growing delivery requests from the South Jamaica area

An 8 a.m. opening allows time for a choice of six varieties of breakfast porridge like banana, peanut and hominy corn and other early morning delights such as ackee and saltfish, rundown —which is salt mackerel simmered in coconut milk — or stewed liver.

Hot beverages, milo, horlicks and Ovaltine are undoubtedly country tastes everyone should try in addition to homemade juices, sorrel, carrot juice and sea moss for the completion of a hearty lunch or dinner.

Where’s the meat?

Chicken, pork, goat, and seafood including roast fish Port Royal style, bring the meat of the matter out of the Caribbean.

Vegetarians have a special place at the new establishment, which offers dishes to suit special dietary needs.

After dinner, ask for a pint of Taste of the Tropics ice cream to go, or various cakes — carrot is my favorite.

Looking for those tasty hard dough and spiced breads?

They can be found at "Country Style"- a grand choice in Jamaican cuisine.
