Farmers
Pizza & Deli
113-45 Farmers Blvd.
Cuisine: Italian
Hours: 7 Days: 8: 30 – 11 PM
Sometimes you’re hungry, tired, hurried and on a
budget, you want something to eat and you want it fast.
That’s when I usually go to Farmers Pizzeria and
Deli.
Not only is the service fast, it’s also presented
with a smile and a kind word with a Spanish, not Italian or American,
accent.
That’s right, the owners, contrary to the cuisine,
are Dominican.
It has been five years since Polivo Reyes, a native of
the Dominican Republic, opened his little corner eatery and since then he
and two other family members have kept the St. Albans community eating and
smiling.
So how did a kid from the Dominican Republic come to
own a pizzeria on Farmers Boulevard?
Hard work and ambition is the obvious answer.
"I used to work in a pizzeria when I first came to
New York about 10 years ago," said Reyes. "I worked long hours
and learned everything I could then after a few years I opened up a
restaurant on Rockaway Boulevard."
According to Reyes who’s barely out of his 20s, the
neighborhood, which is short on sit down eateries, has been extremely
supportive of his business and he appreciates it.
"The people are friendly here," he observed.
"They’re friendly and very supportive of us."
One can see why they would be supportive. Reyes’
prices are as good as his food is.
The mouth-watering array of plain or loaded pizza,
antipasto, garlic knots, pasta and hot hero sandwiches and Spanish style
chicken are all par for the course on the corner.
Stop in and have a slice and a smile.
You’ll be glad you did.
