The Genesis Of Caribbean Flavor

Genesis 1
162-23 Hillside Ave., Jamaica
739-8443

Hours: Mondays and Tuesdays, 8 a.m.-11p.m.; Wednesday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-midnight; Sundays, 8 a.m.-8p.m.

Cuisine: West Indian

Baked breads and pastries, traditional dishes and a history for culinary expertise — these components are what has made Genesis 1, among the best in West Indian restaurants in southeast Queens.

Not to be mistaken with restaurants in other boroughs with a similar name, Genesis 1 has a full variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner delights from the Caribbean.

Plantains, steamed vegetables, white rice or rice and peas, may accompany any meat of choice at Genesis 1.

My favorite was the oxtails that are cooked until meat falls from the bone.

There is also fish and chicken seasoned in a variety of ways.

Curry and jerk are influential seasonings in Jamaican cuisine and are used with the chef’s discretion — added to taste in Genesis 1’s succulent curried chicken with potatoes.

Avoid the lunch rush by placing your order ahead of time, or have the food catered to your office by the major take out establishment.
