Haitian Delights

Nouveau Manoir Restaurant
207-13-15 Jamaica Ave.,
Queens Village 464-4400

Cuisine: Haitian

Hours: 7 days, 12 p.m.-after midnight

Nouveau Manoir is a white-table-cloth, napkin-in-glass, flower-vase-at-table-center Haitian restaurant.

In addition to this upscale layout, there is a stage for a band during special events.

The layout is given a Haitian flavor with beautiful exotic paintings depicting the Haitian village scene, the Haitian market scene and other situations. There is also Haitian music playing.

I ordered the "goat Creole." As an appetizer, a lettuce and tomato salad was served with ranch dressing.

The goat Creole is chopped goat meat with jallepeno and onion slices in a light stew. It was served with fried plantains, which were like thick plantain chips, and rice with bean stew. It was quietly delicious. The meal cost $10.

Other meals on the menu are chicken Creole, fried chicken, guinea hen, fried goat, fried pork, vegetables with meat, vegetables with conch, conch Creole, fish Creole, fried fish, salted fish, shrimp Creole, fried yautia, fish croquettes, shrimp cocktails and fried couscous.
