Known to all that come here as simply "The Jerk Hut," Percy’s Boston Style Jerk Restaurant brings West Indians from all over the Caribbean to Laurelton for a taste of Jamaica.

The takeout, made-to-order, catering hut makes a nice blend of Caribbean dishes such as Escoveitch Fish, Curry Goat, Oxtails and specialty soups like Goat Head Soup, Red Pea Soup and Chicken Soup For The Soul. But, needless to say, the main attraction of the restaurant is its expertise in making jerk dishes.

The Jamaican jerk sauce is a peppery, mild seasoning the enhances the taste of meats and is not very hot. Jerk specialties at the hut include Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pork and Jerk Shrimp.

My delight is the Jerk Chicken with Sweet Sauce, because the hot sauce can burn the taste buds right out of your mouth.

A dinner order includes your choice of rice (my favorite is rice and peas, which can be ordered as a side dish) and fried plantains with enough to feed two for the price of one.

Don’t forget the mac and cheese.

If West Indians will travel 30-minutes from Nassau County to this Queens neck of the woods to eat here . . . it is clear that this is definitely the place to be. Most nights (especially Thursday and Friday), patrons must be have full patience because the line can go out the door.

Even if you run in for a Beef or Chicken Pattie, the country’s special hard dough bread (which goes great with the Curry Chicken), or the national dish of Ackee and Saltfish, the Jerk Hut . . . excuse me Percy’s Boston Style Jerk Restaurant . . . gives you "nuf food and ‘tis good mon."
