A Delightful Mix At River View

River View Restaurant and Bar
216-06 Jamaica Ave.,
Queens Village, 217-4200

Hours: Daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Once entering the quaint River View Restaurant in Queens Village, the aroma of curry and Chinese cooking hit me after opening the door.

Although I know a few Chinese-Jamaicans, mixing the food never occurred to me.

This restaurant offers this ethnic blend and with much delight with the West Indian country of Guyana and Asian country of China represented in the mix of traditional dishes like lo mein with curried meats — a dish of jerk chicken lo mein was a tasty retreat from the everyday.

Vegetables and lo mein noodles were the main attraction on the palate, which taste just like they were ordered from an authentic Chinese restaurant. With jerk chicken with mild sweet sauce as an additive, the main ingredient is ultimate success.

Everything from chop suey to pepper steak with onions can be found on their lunch menu which offers specials on weekdays until 3 p.m.

Then there are the traditional Guyanese dishes like cow heel soup and curried duck, the Indian dish Dhal Purj and Chinese mixed vegetables with garlic or oyster sauce for a cultural change.

When you are in search of an after work unwind, don’t forget specialty drinks at the bar, which is open late for cocktails and a mix of reggae and R&B music.

The meal is extraordinary, with a price that even penny pinchers can afford.

See you there!
