‘Carib’ Delights Fit For A King

The King’s Delight, Inc.
206-14 Linden Blvd., Cambria Heights; 276-0630

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., daily

Steeped in the Rastafarian “ital” tradition of meatless or fish dishes selectively prepared with clean hands and hearts, the King’s Delight is just that: . . . a haven offering delightful tastes fit for royalty.

What sets the diminutive eatery apart from others of its kind are their variations on popular Caribbean themes such as snapper, soy or callaloo patties and rice-and-peas with barbeque, curry or sweet and sour tofu chunks. If your palate is already familiar with curry goat or Jamaican style barbeque, these particular tastes of the King’s Delight will definitely satisfy your desires.

Naturally, “roots” drinks, juices and water are among the beverages that can accompany your lunch ($3) or dinner ($6 and up).  One standout item is the cheesecake ($4).  Currently available in strawberry or pineapple, the pleasantly portioned treats are soy-based and absolutely dairy-free.  Also available for sale are Jamaican spice buns, cheese and publications, all intended to give patrons a taste of home (or the vacation they should have had).

For brunch or an evening munch, one visit to The King’s Delight just might teach you why ital is vital.
