Traditions Restaurant: 84-28 164th St., Briarwood, NY 11432

Cuisine: American, Italian, and Irish.

Open: 11 a.m. till 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Deliveries are also available for orders over $20.

Located on the border of Jamaica and Briarwood, Traditions has the promise of becoming a great family restaurant. The restaurant was just recently opened by P.J. Conlon who has managed Traditions Pub, at the same address, for the past year and a half. He intends to offer patrons a mixed menu ranging from popular American dishes, Italian dinners, and Irish specialties.

According to Sean Fitzmaurice, the restaurant’s cook, the menu is still under development and only offers a breakfast and a lunch menu.

"Right now the hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., but starting next week we will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.," Fitzmaurice said. "The current menu will definitely be expanded to include a greater selection of Italian dinners."

Although the restaurant’s hours will be changing, Fitzmaurice plans to keep the breakfast menu. Currently, the restaurant offers a continental Breakfast menu for $3 and consists of cereal, toast, orange juice, and a choice of tea or coffee. Two eggs, any style, will cost $2. To add bacon or bacon and sausage to your eggs will cost an additional .75 cents or $1.50.

There are also breakfast sandwiches served on the premises, a fried egg and bacon will cost $4, and scrambled eggs with bacon will cost an additional 50 cents.

The restaurant also offers an appetizer and an entree menu. The appetizer menu includes the soup of the day for $2, mozzarella sticks for $4 — served on a bed of lettuce and tomato, cucumber, and blue cheese dressing.

As a tribute to the Subway Series, some of the restaurant’s dishes, including the entree menu, were named after the Mets and the Yankees. Cajun Chicken Baguette: which consists of marinated chicken served on a baguette of salad and French fries will only cost $5.95, the Mets Bumper Wings — Buffalo wings served with a side salad, french fries and hot dip will cost $4 and a Baked Lasagna — which is served with a choice of salad or french fries will run $6.

Burgers are also served at the restaurant, the Homemade Burger — a cheese burger served with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and French fries will cost $5.50. The Yankee Super Burger which consists of a double decker cheese burger served with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and French fries will run you about $6.50.

Again, Traditions menu is still in the process of being perfected, but it does look promising so far. I can’t wait to make this restaurant my tradition after work.
