A Spanish Taste Of The Sea

Veira Mar
87-81 Sutphin Blvd., Jamaica, 739-3124

Hours: 7 a.m. to 2 a.m

Cuisine: Spanish

I visited the Veira Mar in Jamaica, a courteous Spanish restaurant concentrating on seafood, and ordered the fried slice of fish with french fries.

While I waited, I was given a free vegetable salad. Before I was done with the salad, the fish was served. With tobasco sauce, the meal was hot, spicy, tasty and fun ($7).

As a sweet gesture, I was given some candy on my way out.

The poultry menu consists of boneless fried chicken, chicken breast with garlic, cut up breast of chicken with green pepper and onion and chicken breast steak in lemon sauce.

On the fish menu, in addition to what I enjoyed, there is slice of fish in sauce, red snapper in sauce, fried whole red snapper, and fish fillet: sauteed, baked and fried. Other seafood dishes are shrimp in garlic sauce, shrimp Creole, fried shrimp, mashed green plantain with garlic shrimp, breaded shrimp and octopus salad.

The rice dishes are Spanish sausage with rice and squid with rice. There is also soupy rice with chicken or shrimp. These dishes are served with white rice, yellow rice, french fries, green plantains or white plantains.

Also, Veira Mar serves corn with eggs, salami, Spanish sausage, bacon or cheese.

Other interesting foods on the menu are broiled cassava and boiled green banana.
